Dryer Vent Cleaning in San Diego, CA

Dryer vent cleaning in San Diego, CA
The job starts by pulling the dryer out and disconnecting the transition hose. We check the hose first. Crushed foil behind the machine is common. Then a rotating brush goes in from the termination side, spinning as it travels, with a vacuum holding negative pressure at the other end. Lint comes out in a mat, not a dusting. We run the dryer afterward and feel the hood flap. If the flap barely lifts, the line is still restricted and we say so.
San Diego holds the full housing spectrum in one city, so no two of these jobs look alike. Craftsman and Spanish bungalows in North Park, Golden Hill and Kensington put laundry on a back porch or basement-level space, with long under-floor runs in original duct. Those are crawlspace jobs. The 1950s–60s ranch tracts in Clairemont, Allied Gardens and Serra Mesa are easier. Garage laundry, short sidewall run, done from outside.
Condos downtown, in Little Italy and Mission Valley are the hard ones. Stacked washer/dryer in an interior closet, flex duct into a shared chase, no tenant access past the ceiling. Restriction there is constant and partly the building's problem.
Coastal and bayside neighborhoods sit under the marine layer with damp, heavy mornings much of the year. Damp duct interiors hold lint instead of blowing it clear. Inland, Rancho Bernardo and Scripps run dry, but two-story roof-vented laundry rooms mean a vertical pull.

Frequently Asked Questions
My dryer takes two or three cycles to dry a load near the coast — is that the vent or the marine layer?
Usually both, working against each other. Mornings under the marine layer run humid, 80%+ is normal much of the year, so the air your dryer pulls in is already loaded with moisture and the machine has to work longer to shed it. That's the part we can't fix. What we can fix is the restriction that turns a slow cycle into a two-hour one. Damp air moving slowly through a duct makes lint stick to the walls instead of blowing clear, so coastal and bayside vents build a packed, felted layer rather than loose fluff. If you're in North Park or Golden Hill with a long under-floor run, that layer can cut airflow badly before you notice anything but longer cycles. A cleaning won't beat the humidity, but it'll get you back to one cycle per load instead of three.
I'm in a Clairemont ranch house with the laundry in the garage. Is that a simple job?
Generally yes. The 1950s–60s tract houses in Clairemont, Allied Gardens and Serra Mesa almost always have a short run straight out the garage sidewall, which is the easiest configuration there is. We can usually clean it from both ends in one visit and verify airflow at the exterior hood. The two things we do find on these: the original exterior flap is often painted shut or seized from decades of coats, and the flex duct behind the dryer has been crushed when someone pushed the machine back against the wall. Both are quick to address. Garage laundry runs are also where we see the most lint piled on the floor behind the dryer, worth clearing while we're there.
I live in a Downtown condo and the dryer vents into a shared chase. Can you even do anything?
Partly, and we'll tell you honestly where the limit is. Stacked washer/dryer units in interior closets Downtown, in Little Italy and in Mission Valley run a short length of flex duct into a building chase that you don't own and can't access. We can clean your flex, clear the lint trap housing and the blower area, and measure what airflow you're actually getting. If the reading is still poor after that, the restriction is upstream in the chase, and that's a building issue — HOA or property management has to bring someone in for the shared riser. We'll give you the airflow numbers in writing so you have something concrete to hand them. Chronic restriction in these buildings is common and it's rarely the unit owner's duct.
How fast can you get out here, and do you do same-day?
Same-day happens, usually when someone cancels or when we already have a truck working your side of the city. San Diego is spread out enough that geography matters more than the calendar. If we're in Scripps or Rancho Bernardo that morning, an inland same-day slot is realistic; if you're in Kensington and the crew is north, it's more likely the next day. Most non-urgent bookings land within a few days. If your dryer is shutting off on its own, the cabinet is hot to the touch, or you smell anything scorched, say so when you call and we'll treat it as urgent rather than queueing it normally.
Why would a quote for my Kensington bungalow be different from my friend's house in Tierrasanta?
Because the ductwork is nothing alike. The Craftsman and Spanish bungalows in Kensington, North Park and Golden Hill sit on raised foundations with laundry in a back porch or lower-level space, and the run often travels a long way under the floor in original duct, sometimes with elbows nobody documented. That takes crawl access, more line, and more time. A Tierrasanta two-story with a roof-vented upstairs laundry room is a different problem: vertical run, roof work, and the terminal cap has to be checked from up top. Both are more involved than a garage sidewall run. We ask about the house age, where the laundry sits, and where the vent exits before quoting, because those answers drive almost the whole number.
