Dryer Vent Hose Replacement in Escondido, CA

Does the dryer vent hose actually need replacing?

Usually you can tell by hand. Squeeze the transition hose behind the dryer. If it is thin foil and it stays crushed, it is done. Foil flex tears at the ribs. Lint catches on every ridge. Plenty of postwar ranch and beach cottage laundry areas in Escondido still run original foil on a short exterior-wall path. That hose is the easiest failure point in the whole system.

Replacement means semi-rigid aluminum or rigid metal, not plastic or foil. Clamps at both collars, no screws pointing into the airstream. Screws snag lint and build a plug. The dryer also has to sit far enough off the wall that the hose does not kink into an S behind it. In condo and townhome closets with stacked units mounted flush, there is almost no depth, so a periscope-style rigid fitting is often the only thing that fits.

The hose is rarely the whole story. If towels still need two or three cycles after a new hose, the blockage is further out. Roof-terminating runs in the 1990s–2000s tracts pack lint at the final elbow, and the flapper sticks open. Birds and rodents move in near chaparral.

Garage-corner installs through stucco get their own problem. Crushed hose plus a corroded louver equals a hot garage and a burning smell.
